Master the Regulations to Avoid Surprises at Customs
Finding a product very cheaply in China does not mean that the product can enter Turkey. Turkey's customs legislation is quite strict, in line with European Union standards.
CE Mark and Technical File
The CE mark is mandatory for electronic products, toys, medical devices, and many machinery groups. However, having 'CE' written on the product is not enough. You must ask the manufacturer for a valid 'Declaration of Conformity' and a 'Technical File' containing test reports.
Tareks Inspections
The Risk-Based Control System in Foreign Trade (TAREKS) is software that inspects the compliance of products with standards at customs. If your products fall into the 'red line', they are subjected to physical examinations and tests. In this process, even the smallest deficiency in the documents can cause the goods to be returned to the origin.
TSE Approval Processes
Some product groups are directly directed to the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) inspection at customs. The compliance of the products with the relevant communiqués is examined. This process requires cost and time.
Recommendation: Before importing, check the requirements by sharing the HS code of the product with a customs consultant or an expert consultancy firm.
